Unexpected Air Loss
When a busy Chicago hospital realized they had an air loss problem, they called the experts to fix it. As part of renovations at the hospital, the mechanical components of three HVAC systems within the hospital were being upgraded. Parts of the system were pressure testing prior to the upgrade, including three large air handling units. Standing approximately ten feet tall, the air handlers are each housed in 10 by 15 foot metal rooms. The results of the pressure tests showed a significant amount of air loss through all three handlers.
A Call For Help
Fearing the cost of full replacement of the three units, management knew they needed an immediate solution to their problem. They contacted Trenchless Innovations to have them take a look. Upon inspection of the units, the team at Trenchless determined the best approach was to spray seal the interior of the handlers, sealing cracks and holes and preventing further air loss.
Eliminating Air Loss For Good
Over a course of three days, taking one day per handler, our technicians applied the sealant to the interiors of each one. Our technicians applied the first coat in the morning and the second coat in the afternoon. Trenchless Innovations’ quick and cost effective alternative to reducing air loss resulted in no disruption at all to the remaining areas of the hospital.
With the new mechanics installed and the renovations completed, the hospital once again pressure tested the system. This time around, the results were phenomenal. The hospital was relieved their problem was solved without the need for the costly replacement of the three handlers. Given the cost-effective approach of sealing versus replacement, the hospital was grateful for the team at Trenchless Innovations and their innovative process.
